Please explain Disney Pin Trading?

My husband and I are taking our 5 year old daughter out to Disney and this will be our first time. A few friends of ours went about 6 weeks ago and she said that she traded pins with the cast members and staff- but how does this work? Do we need to buy Disney pins to start with or can we bring some of our Texas pins? Do you walk up to anyone who has pins on the lanyard? Any details will be helpful- Thanks!
I am so excited- I know that she is going to love it. Thanks for the helpful tips!

Pin trading at Disney World is so much fun! Here’s how it works:

You can bring your Texas pins if you want to, but you can’t trade them with any one, because they’re not Disney. You can only trade Disney pins, nothing else.
You can trade with anyone, but no one is required to trade with you or your daughter except for cast members, or employees. You can make two trades per lanyard, per cast member, per day. Cast members wearing green lanyards can only trade with children.
You can start trading with one pin on a lanyard, or you can buy a starter set of a collection of pins and a lanyard. Or, you can buy a set of pins and a lanyard separately.

If you have any more Disney questions, I strongly recommend the site http://www.disneyworld.com/moms. Here are a few links.

These are videos from the Disney World Moms Panel. On the third page there’s a video about pin trading.

This is a question that was answered in the Mom’s Panel that’s very similar to your question. The answer is very thorough.

I know you and your family are going to have a great time at Disney! 5 is such a great age. My favorite place to watch the 3pm parade in the Magic Kingdom is right across from the train station at the entrance to the park.
